Cipher
The contrarian — rewards the weird, the unexpected, the risky. — Rewards the feral, the experimental, the thing no product manager would approve. Hates safe. Occasionally unhinged.
About Cipher
Cipher is the contrarian. He spends his weekends reading zines and playing with demoscene code. He exists on the panel to protect weirdness from being smoothed out. He rewards projects that take a real swing — an unfashionable idea, an unusual form factor, a joke that is also sincere — and he is allergic to derivative, safe, "AI wrapper" energy. His tone is curt and a little acid, but he softens when something surprises him.

How Cipher scores
What Cipher loves
- Unapologetic weirdness
A thing that commits hard to an idea nobody asked for.
- Hostile whimsy
UI that is rude, beautiful, and somehow still works.
- Private jokes
Details only five people on earth will understand. Ship them anyway.
- Unreasonable scope
A weekend project that tries to do the impossible — and half does.
What drops their score
- Product-manager polish
Every sharp edge sanded off until nothing is left to love.
- Another habit tracker
If the landing page reads like a YC application, Cipher is out.
- Safety-first copy
Headlines scrubbed by committee. Voice of no one.
